The Ingalls Building, located on the corner of 4th and Vine in downtown Cincinnati, is currently under renovation and is getting a new life as an upscale hotel. On September 15th, the AFC, HGC Construction, Luminaut, and 3CDC invited the public to Fountain Square for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the renovation of one of the Queen City’s most treasured structures on Fountain Square’s Fifth Third LED board.
Built in 1903, this 16-story building was the world’s FIRST reinforced concrete tower. The process of reinforcing steel bars within concrete was considered a daring engineering feat at the time. In fact, there was so much skepticism that a reporter allegedly stayed awake through the night in order to be the first to report on the building’s demise. Of course, that never happened, and its success led the way for the explosion of concrete high-rise construction across the country.
Thank you to everyone who came out to Fountain Square, and to our partners at HGC Construction, Luminaut, and 3CDC for making this exciting event possible!
