AFC is excited for opening of the newest exhibit in the gallery, one which celebrates the role and evolution of the architectural model in design: DESIGN MAKE DISPLAY. The opening reception will be held at the AFC Gallery at 811 Race Street on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 6-8pm. The exhibit will be on display in the gallery through December 20, 2013.

DESIGN MAKE DISPLAY hopes to show how the architectural model is an art form in its own right, one that continues to be a critical method of representation in architectural design. The models of this exhibit, selected from a public call for works, include examples of traditional hand-built models, as well as models that incorporate contemporary digital technologies.

Architectural design is now at an interesting intersection of digital and physical means of model making. Many designers have stopped using traditional physical models of wood, paper, and glue, opting instead for digital means of representation. These new technologies offer different ways of thinking and previously unimaginable results.
