The Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati is excited to introduce its new Executive Director: Christen Lubbers. If you think she looks familiar, you’d be right! Christen is no stranger to the organization, having started working for the AFC back in 2015. For the past 3+ years, Christen served as the Foundation’s Education Director, overseeing the Design LAB program in addition to assisting with other foundation needs. In January of this year, Christen took over the Executive Director role from Steve Sendelbeck, who will be part-time with the foundation until he officially retires to sunny Florida.
Christen received her Bachelor of Arts from Northern Kentucky University and went on to get a Master’s Degree in Conservation Biology from Miami University, focusing on sustainable building practices. In addition to her educational accomplishments, Christen has also served as an educator for the Ohio River Foundation, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and the Newport Aquarium. She is a LEED Green Associate and is currently serving as President of U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Southwest Ohio.
The organization is looking forward to its future with Christen as the new Executive Director. She has a creative energy that will continue the trajectory of the organization that has been set by her predecessors while adding her own flavor. In this role, she hopes to inspire the love that she has for the great city of Cincinnati and it’s incredible past as well as help current and future generations understand the importance of sustainable and thoughtful design. She is excited to bring her ideas to life and continue the mission of the Foundation – to help people discover and experience the transformative power of design.
