Criteria and Instructions for Nominating

Criteria

The Hammer Award will be presented at Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA 12) by the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC) to a practitioner who has made a consistent and significant contribution to the built environment in the Greater Cincinnati region. The nomination should be for an individual, not a firm or other entity.

Practitioners include architects of all disciplines, engineers, builders, developers, planners, officials – anyone who has taken a hands-on role in creating the built environment. Consistent is taken to mean his or her involvement has exceeded twenty years.

Nominations:

Nominations may be made by any member of the Foundation, the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers, the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the American Society of Interior Designers, or The International Interior Design Association.

Submissions:

Please prepare five hard copies of the following:

Section One: Facts and Narrative: 8.5 by 11 format, May be single-spaced type but no smaller than 11 point.

• Nominator: Name, occupation and company or organization name if applicable, address, phone number, and email;
• Nominee: Name, field of practice and company name(s), number of years as a practitioner current address, phone number, email if available;
• Narrative: (two-page limit, 81/2 by 11 format) an explanation of why you believe the person deserves the Hammer Award.

Section Two: Attachments

• Two testamentary letters from persons besides yourself;
• One set of one-to-five images or other exhibits of the nominees’ accomplishments that support your explanation. Please refer to these attachments in your narrative. Material will not be returned.
• A check for $50.

Rules:

• Please limit the “why you believe” narrative section to two pages of text.
• If the individual is selected for the award, he or she must be willing to sit for an interview that will be filmed and shown during the presentation of the award at the Cincinnati Design Awards (CDA 12) at the Hall of Mirrors on November 14.

Deadline:

Completed nominations must have been received at the Foundation office by 3 p.m., September 3, 2008. Please mail your nomination to Sue Ann Painter, Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati, 127 West Ninth St. # 1, Cincinnati OH 45202.

Process:

All nominations will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation that will pick three submissions to present to the entire Board. The Board will select the finalist.
